This role is subject to:
  • Mechanical Engineering or Building Services HND/HNC/ degree or have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship with sufficient post qualification experience.
  • Working towards attaining a formal professional qualification with a relevant engineering body such as the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering, Engineering Council or Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineer.
  • Casual Car Documentation- The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
 
We are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer, with proven construction experience to join a dynamic service that delivers a complex programme of projects on behalf of Manchester City Council. This Mechanical Engineer appointment will contribute to the ongoing growth, delivery, and strategic development of the city.
 
The Capital Programme Division reports to the Deputy Chief Executive and is responsible for delivering approximately £200m pa of Major and Minor Capital Programmes across the City. The Capital Programme Division continuously strives to improve the effectiveness of its design, project management and programme delivery procedures.
 
The Mechanical Engineer will work on across a diverse portfolio of construction works and will specifically take lead responsibility the design and specification of mechanical building services including heating, hot water, legionella mitigation, ventilation, air conditioning, gas, BMS etc. in accordance with current guidelines, standards, and regulations.

About the Candidate

You will have a successful track record in delivery within major refurbishment and newbuild schemes and will have had experience of working on a range of projects that will have demonstrated your mechanical design expertise and construction knowledge.
 
You will need to be competent in engineering design with regard to the specification of mechanical building services including heating, hot water, legionella mitigation, ventilation, air conditioning, gas, BMS etc. in accordance with current guidelines, standards, and regulations.
 
You will also have experience of managing construction projects and have knowledge of inspecting and reporting on defects. You will also have knowledge of new installations, NBS (National Building Specification) specification software or other similar packages, calculations, and feasibility studies on all types of buildings. Additionally, you will also possess a good working knowledge of building and planning legislation, Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, CAD software systems and relevant commercial and contractual experience.
 
The successful candidates will have a relevant accredited engineering degree or an HNC/HND or have completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship and gained significant post qualification experience.
