An exciting opportunity has arisen within adult social care for a Senior Social Worker to work within a multidisciplinary moving and handling optimisation team. The Senior Social Worker will be a key role working with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Moving and Handling Assessment Officers. This team are reviewing the needs of people currently receiving double cover packages of care to provide interventions that promote independence and reduce care needs.

Priorities of the role will involve complex and challenging conversations with people, families, carers and providers to highlight the benefits of optimising a person’s care and engagement with assessors across health and social care to promote and embed the optimisation of care. Optimisation of care can be achieved by consideration of interventions such as technology enabled care, reablement, equipment, minor and major adaptations, and proportionate moving and handling techniques.

 

We are looking for a person with a strong social work practice background and an understanding of Manchester, its values and its residents. You will be directly managed by the Moving and Handling Optimisation Team Manager who is an Occupational Therapist, and have access to clinical support from a Social Work Team Manager. In addition you will have access to the social work network and Communities of Practice. It is a small but very supportive team with good morale, team spirit and a great deal of knowledge within it.

The role holder will:
  • Be a qualified social worker with considerable, autonomous experience of working with adults with care and support needs and their carers.
  • Demonstrate working application of legislation and policy frameworks such as Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Equality Act 2010, Human Rights Act 1998, all of which will underpin their practice.
  • Hold in depth knowledge and skill in an area of social work practice which has been developed through post-qualifying training and development e.g. AMHP, Practice Educator, Best Interest Assessor role, and an ability to share these expertise with others with the intention of promoting good quality, safe, effective and caring interventions.
  • Have leadership ability, routinely modelling good practice and setting expectations for others within a strengths-based framework.
  • Have accountability for the practice of others within the team, and influence colleagues in partner organisations who also work with vulnerable adults e.g. police and health, to ensure collectively we achieve person centred outcomes for the people we work with.
