We work to keep our city growing in a sustainable, well-planned way and we want our residents to benefit from that growth. We’re improving employment opportunities, investing in housing and infrastructure, and building partnerships that help meet our economic and zero-carbon targets. Teams we recruit to include:
Planning, Licensing and Building Control
We focus on improving life for our diverse communities, delivering sustainable growth, embracing inclusivity, tackling inequality and responding to the challenges of climate change – providing new jobs, new homes and a safer, cleaner and greener city.
Commercial Development
We manage the Council’s land and property, leading and driving development with our assets and capital resources. We provide effective and efficient management of the Council's investment property, identifying opportunities to drive additional value.
City Centre Growth and Infrastructure
We drive a wide range of initiatives that support inclusive growth, regeneration and future planning. We work with key stakeholders, investors and end users to promote Manchester as a place to live, work and visit, providing improved infrastructure, commercial and residential development, public realm and spaces, retail, leisure and other cultural amenities, and by encouraging businesses to relocate, remain, grow and create new jobs here.
Major Regeneration
We drive forward key projects in the Council’s residential growth programmes in Victoria North and Eastern Gateway.
Work & Skills
We make sure residents have the aspirations, skills and opportunities to make the most of the good quality employment and business success that their city offers. We work with business and education partners to make sure employers can draw from the growing pool of well-educated, skilled local talent that’s relevant to their future growth.
Adult Education (MAES)
We provide learning courses for adults across the city in a variety of community venues, including schools, libraries and community centres.
Our courses cover subjects such as:
- Maths and English up to GCSE
- Digital and ICT skills
- English for Speakers of Other Languages
- Family Learning
- Vocational courses into careers in care and education.
We have a learner support service to support learners into work or further learning.
