Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Closing Date: 18 September 2024

Interview Method: In Person (Face to Face)

Manchester is a world class city with ambitious plans for sustainable growth. Do you have the qualities to play a key role in shaping this dynamic modern city by influencing development that responds to a clear quality agenda and zero carbon ambitions?

The role would be within the Planning Service in the development and implementation of the Council's planning policies for the physical regeneration of the City of Manchester. It would provide the opportunity of working with varying issues, both in the office and on site where candidates would need to demonstrate considerable initiative and professional judgement. Working closely with all parts of the planning service, candidates would help to develop policy and ensure that development is carried out to the highest standards of design and sustainability.

You will join a team of highly skilled officers specialising in building conservation, urban design, sustainable design, access and protected trees; you will be responsible for advising on applications affecting sustainable design, together with shaping policies and site and area appraisals.

About the Candidate

For this post, candidates need to be creative and innovative with a positive attitude and be effective in negotiating for the best of design with an understanding of how climate change can be addressed through the planning process.  The post requires an RTPI recognised planning qualification and/or significant knowledge and experience of working in development management in a design context.

You will need a sound working and practical knowledge of sustainable development, construction and detailing of buildings, as well as the related legislation and current issues, together with excellent communication skills and a high level of initiative.
