This role is subject to -

Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

Driving Licence – The successful candidate should hold a full clean driving licence as you will be required to drive a vehicle adhering to council regulations.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

You will be responsible for generating awareness of local services, engaging and empowering community members to access services and encouraging involvement in activities .

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other neighbourhood focused services to ensure that Council services and partner agencies are working to the highest standards to provide a quality environment for all our residents. You will be able to proactively identify environmental concerns and work with partners to resolve issues, including untidy gardens and regularly estate walkabouts. 

As a Housing Officer you will be the responsible officer for a “geographical patch” of housing stock and deal with all tenancy and estate management duties.

You will also be required to work closely with key stakeholders to develop effective partnerships and greater coordinated working with other agencies ensuring effective resident outcomes. 

You will work closely with residents on any housing related queries they may have across a wide range of service areas as well as support residents to live well and thrive within their homes and ensure that any anti social behaviour or safeguarding issues are referred to the relevant department.

You will be required to carry out regular tenancy visits with residents such as New Tenancy Visits after a resident has moved into the property and biennial tenancy visits in order to make sure that residents are safe & well within their homes and any support issues or needs are identified and act on appropriately.

You will also work closely with a variety of staff and teams across Neighbourhoods and wider Housing Services, including Housing Support, Waste & Recycling and Caretaking colleagues, Community Safety, Rents & Money Advice as well as Repairs & Maintenance to ensure that all residents needs are met. 

Processing requests such as exchange applications and tenancy succession requests in a timely manner which meets statutory deadlines is essential whilst also ensuring that all contacts with residents are inputted correctly onto the housing management system (QL).

About the Candidate

We are looking for someone to join the Housing Team who is passionate about supporting our residents of Manchester to thrive.  

You will need to be able to make effective decisions on a day-to-day basis, taking ownership of decisions, demonstrating sound judgement in escalating issues where necessary.  Be logical in thinking and explain reasoning behind decisions or actions taken.  

You will also ensure our housing management systems are updated at all times. 

You should be able to demonstrate your ability to organise multiple tasks in the most effective way, and allocate time and energy according to the task complexity and priority  

You will therefore have excellent communication skills, and are able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.

You must hold a valid UK Drivers Licence and have access to a motor vehicle in order to apply for this role.
