Manchester City Council is a vibrant city, with great connections, but we face a challenge with homelessness for both families and single people. We are committed to rapidly increasing our levels of homeless prevention, increasing our supply of affordable housing, reducing and changing our use of temporary accommodation whilst, most importantly, securing better outcomes for our residents. We have a new housing strategy with a focus on increasing the number and access to affordable housing and a unique Our Manchester values approach.

This role will oversee our Homeless Review Team and lead on policy development and implementation across the housing solutions service. It will work alongside three other Housing Solutions Team Managers, embedding a case management approach and high quality service. The key responsibilities for this role within the housing solutions service will be to provide advice and direction to the Review Team and using lessons learned from the team to improve the quality and advice given by the wider Housing Solutions Team. The successful person will oversee internal and external training to help embed culture change to support partner and customer understanding of the Housing Solutions Service.

About the Candidate

Housing Solutions is a very busy customer focussed service supporting people who are facing many challenges. We need a pragmatic, innovative, resilient and experienced manager who can work with managers, staff, external partners as well as with people who are, or are at risk of homelessness to find the best solution for their circumstances. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of homelessness law and the operational practicalities relevant to implementing that law.
 
The successful candidate will be able to explain the intricacies of the law to a range of individuals spanning legal experts to people experiencing homelessness directly. 
 
Experience of writing policies for operational implementation will be a necessary skills held by successful candidate.
