We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Team Manager to join our Contracts and Commissioning Team, leading our Centralised Placements Service. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in a high-performing, motivated, and supportive team that’s making a real impact.
 
Our Placements Team is at the heart of ensuring children and young people who can’t live at home can live in safe, nurturing environment. Working across the city, we collaborate closely with social care teams, our fostering service, and external providers to find the best possible care for Manchester’s children.
 
This is a fast-paced, five-day-a-week service that embraces creative ways of working. As Team Manager, you’ll lead a dedicated group of professionals committed to delivering high-quality support that promotes care plans, champions young people’s voices, and drives positive outcomes. You’ll also ensure carer givers and providers deliver excellent value for money while meeting each child’s unique needs.

The post will require you to:
  • To respond to emergency requests often requiring work to pressured deadlines.
  • To work as part of a wider team across Children's Social Care to ensure that children's permanence plans are secured and children have care givers who stick with them.  
  • To work within Our Manchester behaviours and ensure that all our conversations and interactions with external providers, internal carers and colleagues are child focused. 
  • To effectively manage the Placements Service in supporting the plans for children and ensuring that they are introduced  to their care givers in a manner that is kind, considerate and respectful, making them feel welcomed and valued.
  • To lead on specialist searches for children with disabilities / or those young people who have suffered trauma and attachment difficulties, acknowledging their lived experience and the impact of this for them. 
  • To collect, collate and present referral and monitoring data in order to support the data analysis to senior management team, when required to ensure we are aligned to our Sufficiency Strategy.
  • In partnership with Commissioning, responsibility for establishing and managing the partnership between the local authority and independent residential and foster providers specifically based within the Manchester and Greater Manager Region. 
  • This is not a remote position and the successful candidate will be expected to work within our flexible working policy.

About the Candidate

We want to recruit the best person for this role. The successful candidate will be able to promote and facilitate innovation, creativity and continuous improvement in care and support arrangements within their teams. We are looking for a creative and resilient individual to manager our fabulous team of Placement Officers.

You will be kind, reliable have a good sense of humour, be prepared to go the extra mile but above all you will be focused at all times on the children in need of a care giver who can make all the difference for them. We are looking for someone who will value the role of the placement finding function for children and see the full importance of this for children, how getting this right can really impact a child's life both now and in the future. 

You will manage stressful situations to the best of your ability, showing good leadership and management skills, making calm and measured decisions. It's ok not to have all the answers but be willing to work together to find the solution.

We anticipate that you’ve had experience in organisational management, complaint handling and managing change.   You will be able to oversee the effective and efficient delivery of brokerage activities to identify effective care and support arrangements for children, working with operational services, providers and organisational partners such as the NHS.
