This role is subject to -
  • 2 references - where possible, we require 3 years' history
  • Qualification and registration -  Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Fellow (with Advocacy Certificate to the specific area of work of the team, i.e. Civil, Criminal or Family). 
  • DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We are looking for a dynamic qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Lawyer or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives to join our Children and Families Legal Team as a Disclosure Lawyer. This role presents an exciting opportunity to join one of our legal disclosure teams.

Children’s Services work in partnership with the police to support victims and the prosecution of serious crime. You will play an integral part in supporting Children’s Services to achieve this. You will provide legal advice to children's services, with an understanding of  all aspects of their statutory functions, but with a key specialist focus on third-party disclosure of social care records to support criminal investigations and the prosecution of serious offences against children.

You will also manage a diverse and interesting caseload of legal disclosure related matters which will involve third-party disclosure of material to the Family Courts, Tribunals and other Regulatory bodies. The role holder will undertake advocacy before the Court and Tribunals on both their own matters and when supporting other lawyers and legal officers within the team.

Legal work for public services in Manchester, Salford and Rochdale Councils and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority puts you among the few practitioners in England’s first, and biggest, devolved region, where major decisions are now taken in-house rather than in Whitehall and by NHS administrations.

You will be someone who works well as part of a team but equally can plan and complete your own work with minimal supervision.  You will have your own caseload so the ability to manage your time effectively is essential. You will be someone who has excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, as you will need draft legal documentation and provide advice to our clients. You will also represent the local authority at regular meetings with our key stakeholders, such as the police and crown prosecution service. You will represent the local authority at court hearings and tribunals.
