About The Role

Working Hours: 35 Hours Per Week

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Work Pattern: 

Week 1: Mon Fri 9am - 5pm with one evening per week 12.30pm - 8pm, TBC on appointment.

Week 2: Mon Fri 9am - 5pm with one evening per week 12.30pm - 8pm, TBC on appointment. One weekend working day either Sat/Sun with a rota day in the week. TBC on appointment.

Additional Payment: 6.7% Flexibility Payment

As part of Manchester Libraries, Galleries and Culture Service, you will play a key role in delivering a vibrant cultural and educational offer within our Henry Watson Music Library. Central Library welcomes over2 million visitors annually and this post is integral to the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of our public engagement programme to our diverse audiences. You will lead and deliver an inclusive programme of events, learning activities and partnerships that promotes the Henry Watson Music Library within Central Library, alongside targeted outreach with young people and other underrepresented communities to improve access, participation and impact. 

You will also be responsible for raising the profile and use of our specialist music collections, using a range of channels including in‑building promotion, the website, newsletters and social media.

  • Communication skills: Demonstrates an understanding of the views of others and communicates in a realistic and practical manner using appropriate language and medium, listens attentively to views and issues of others and responds to issues arising. 
  • Planning & Organising: Demonstrate the ability to organize multiple tasks in the most effective way  and allocate time and energy according to task complexity and priority
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to analyse situations, diagnose problems, identify the key issues, establish and evaluate alternative courses of action and produce a logical, practical and acceptable solution. 
  • Creative skills: Ability to find creative solutions where there are no existing parameters or procedural framework.
  • Strategic thinking: Skills to identify good practice and areas for improvement in strategy and communicate these to colleagues and key stakeholders.
  • Commissioning skills:Good partner relations skills: enquiry response; feedback evaluation; website management; performance advice; data quality assurance.
  • People management: Ability to organise own and others activities with an ability to carry out operational planning for a specific service area. 
  • Technical Skills Required:
    • Hold a recognised professional library or archive qualification or equivalent experience.
    • Experience and understanding of working in public libraries, with excellent customer service skills.
    • Excellent digital and ICT skills across a range of packages, knowledge of their use in the development of service areas.
    • Experience of library stock management and associated systems.
