You will: 

  • Support passengers in their care for the duration of the journey to and from a place of education;
  • Address behavioural instances by where passengers could become distressed, disruptive, or dangerous to fellow passengers;
  • Report instances of driver behaviour or performance that do not meet the required standards;
  • Diffuse situations where a parent/carer is unhappy with the service their child is receiving;
  • Work with the driver to safely drop off a child when the parent/carer does not appear to be at home to welcome the child;
  • Be confident in the use of any technology supplied by the Home to School Transport Team, such as smartphones and use this in line with Council policy.
 The role holder will undertake training relevant to the role when required, including annual refresher training. 

Hours of Work: 
This appointment will be on the basis of a contracted 16 hour working week term time only. Your normal working week is 3.2 hours per day, Monday – Friday, with the ability to work flexibly depending on the needs of the service. This is term time only. You are contracted for 38 weeks per year plus an additional 35 hours to attend 5 paid training days per year (dates pre-confirmed as early as possible). 
 
The Team - Home to School Transport  
 
The Council has a duty to promote the use of sustainable travel and transport between home and school. This includes promoting healthy, sustainable and safe travel solutions; actively engaging and promoting good outcomes for all children; supporting children and young people to attend school regularly; working in partnership with parents and carers to support them with their legal responsibility to ensure that their children attend school; and promoting independent travelling for children and young people wherever possible, taking account of their age and needs.

We are looking for people with:

  • Great communication skills, the ability to adapt different styles to suit the audience and situation.
  • Customer service skills to meet demanding customer needs.
  • Good planning and organising skills to provide work on time, to the required standard and capable of planning a range of simple tasks.
  • You should be confident solving problems and making decisions with the ability to interpret rules/guidelines and know when something needs to be referred to your manager.
