Essential Car Documentation- This post is a designated Essential Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance. 

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The Resettlement Team within the Homelessness Service has a key role to play in providing a migration and resettlement offer to those who need it in the city. The service provides compassionate support, advice and guidance delivered to families/single people who either transition through the city via asylum and transitional arrangements or settle in the city via dedicated evacuation pathways.  

The Resettlement Team Manager will lead a city-wide service delivering transitional support or resettlement accommodation floating support services with a key focus on integration, anti-poverty and homeless prevention initiatives.

If you’re successful, you’ll join a team of dedicated homelessness service professionals and lead a team driving forward a high standard of effective and practical support for new arrivals to the city enabling independence and positive integration. Leading this service, you will deliver a service grounded in the Our Manchester behaviours and specifically contribute to our commitment to show that we value our differences and treat people fairly.  

Successful resettlement ensures households are equipped to positively contribute to the city, thrive and significantly reduces the risk of their homelessness presentation to the Council. You will have an understanding of the issues faced by refugees, evacuees and former asylum seekers as well as the implications of being homeless for households.  

The role holder will have knowledge of the principles of safeguarding and demonstrable ability to deliver an operational service offer for vulnerable families and single people. You will have knowledge of migration, asylum and resettlement alongside that of the provision of a temporary accommodation service and understanding of tenancy management. You will be responsible for the delivery of a support offer ensuring arrivals/households are safe, informed of next steps in the UK, and that, where provided, transitional support and accommodation is suitable, meeting client need and all required housing safety standards. You will be an adept relationship manager relishing collaborative working with other Council departments, external organisations, agencies, stakeholders and key partners in the delivery of resettlement services.

About the Candidate

 

We would love to hear from you if you have previous team management experience and especially experience of managing a team of staff providing a tenancy management and/or housing related support service to clients. 

We are looking for candidates with either a detailed understanding of Homelessness Legislation, the implications of homelessness with a strong working knowledge of homeless prevention or a good understanding of migration services.  

You must have the practical ability to implement quick response services to meet an emerging demand at very short notice. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate agile thinking, are solution focussed and can work flexibly to deliver outcomes.

Desirable requirements that would be useful in this role: 

  • Knowledge of or willingness to develop knowledge and understanding of Homelessness legislation, including the Housing Acts
  • Knowledge of or willingness to develop knowledge of the asylum system.
  • Previous relevant experience working in Homelessness Services or related homelessness agencies/organisations or resettlement/migration services is desirable
