An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an apprentice quantity surveyor to join Manchester City Council's Capital Programmes Division on a permanent basis and which will also include undertaking a 5-year Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship.

The Capital Programmes Division is responsible for developing and delivering Major and Minor Capital Programmes construction projects across the city. The current value of the programme is approx. £200m per annum. The portfolio of work is varied and some of the current and previous projects that we have been involved in include, for example, the construction of new schools, large scale solar PV installations, building demolition, repair, maintenance & refurbishment of heritage buildings, School refurbishments, galleries, leisure, and park buildings.

The Apprentice Quantity Surveyor role is based within the Minor Works Team, which is responsible for delivering construction and refurbishment projects which range from £2k to £3m in value. The team assists internal clients to review project requirements and develop programmes of work which achieve economies of scale from a cost, quality, and programme delivery perspective.

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will be expected to enrol on the BSc Degree Apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying course at the Salford University where they will attend 1 day per week as part of the apprenticeship.

Applicants should therefore have or expect to attain 3 A level or equivalent i.e. BTEC, NVQ, T Levels, plus GCSE English and maths grade 4/C or above or functional level 2 in both subjects by the summer of 2025 that meet the entry requirements for entry onto the degree course.

The successful candidate will also be expected to have the ambition to work towards becoming a full professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) once they have passed the degree programme. They need a passion for a career in the built environment and desire to work through a part time degree in this discipline.

Appointment to the post will be at bottom grade 5 of the career graded pay structure with a series of incremental increases available over time as the successful candidate progresses through their academic and professional training until Grade 7.

The successful applicant will initially be allocated to assist more senior staff but will, as their experience and qualification grow, be expected to become a self-sufficient professional member of staff operating in an independent position leading quantity surveying activities on their own projects.

If you have the above experience and skills and would like to work in a dynamic and interesting environment, we would like to hear from you.

Please ensure your application and personal statement address the Generic Skills and the Technical Requirement (Role Specific) sections outlined in the role profile.
