A unique and rewarding opportunity has arisen to join the Civic and Ceremonial team at Manchester City Council as an Attendant to the Lord Mayor.

The Civic and Ceremonial team is responsible for all aspects of civic protocol and procedure and provides direct support to the Lord Mayor as First Citizen of the City of Manchester.  This includes coordinating and delivering major civic and ceremonial events of significant reputational importance, managing the Lord Mayor’s official diary, maintaining the civic car and regalia, and ensuring safe, efficient transport to and from engagements.

We are seeking a professional and reliable individual to support the Lord Mayor in carrying out their civic and ceremonial duties.  This is an important ambassadorial role, linking the Council with local communities, charities, businesses and international visitors.  You will be expected to represent Manchester City Council with professionalism and respect, maintaining the dignity and standing of the Office of Lord Mayor at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Driving the Lord Mayor to and from engagements and ensuring the Lord Mayor arrives safely and punctually.
  • Assisting with civic regalia, including robing the Lord Mayor when required.
  • Always upholding and maintaining civic protocol.
  • Ensuring the safety of the Lord Mayor and safeguarding civic regalia during engagements.
  • Maintaining the civic car to an exceptionally high standard.
  • Acting as Mace Bearer and/or Toast Master on appropriate civic occasions.
  • Additional duties include providing administrative support to the Civic and Ceremonial team when required.
This post operates on annualised hours, where working hours are calculated over the year. Regular evening and weekend working will be required to cover civic engagements. You will be required to wear a uniform.

About the Candidate

We would love to hear from you if you are presentable, confident and organised, with strong communication skills and a flexible approach to work. You will be comfortable engaging with a wide range of people and able to work calmly and discreetly in high profile situations.
 
You must hold a full, clean driving licence.
You will have a high level of flexibility and be willing to work a varied work pattern, including evenings and weekends.
You will have experience of or ability to undertake routine vehicle maintenance including maintenance of tyre condition / pressures, oil /radiator / fuel levels, and reporting mechanical defects.
