Working Style: Hybrid - Employees split their time between working remotely (e.g., from home) and working on-site (e.g., in an office).

The Senior Social Worker role in Manchester’s Adults Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub  (MASH) is exciting and impactful because it combines:

The role holder will provide professional oversight and supervision to Social Workers in response to complex situations within a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, ensuring that necessary legal, policy and ethical imperatives are maintained when working with the citizens of the service.

The role holder will support the leadership of the Operations and Performance Manager. The role holder will provide a consistent and effective service in complex individual and family situations, maintaining good working relationships within the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub, with other Council services and with a range of external partners.

The role holder will be responsible for the safe delivery of Safeguarding and Social Care response, ensuring the effective discharge of statutory responsibilities and the provision of a high-quality standard of service.

The role holder will manage safeguarding risk effectively, working within a multi-agency environment to provide a professional social work service.

This role is hybrid with office working Monday, Wednesday's and Friday's. Effectively contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and improvement of all business support activities and house-keeping protocols that support the needs of the service and corporate initiatives.

You will also provide accurate research and analysis support where required and produce a range of high quality communication, such as reports and briefing notes for various audiences and purposes including complex, confidential and sensitive correspondence.  Contribute effectively to the design, implementation and maintenance of high quality management information systems and business support activities, providing comprehensive advice to customers and stakeholders.

About the Candidate

We would love to hear from you if you have experience of: 

  • Supervising Social Workers within an Adult Social Care setting.
  • Being accountable for highly complex decision making across a range of Social Work duties and responsibilities, providing best quality supervision and support in developing Social Work skills.
  • Ensure a proportionate response to safeguarding concerns and support escalation where required.


  • Have understanding of the  application of the requirements of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Making Safeguarding Personal and ensuring effective and proportionate support to Manchester residents. 


  • Prepare and produce a variety of high quality and professional written documentation on behalf of the City Council in accordance with national and local policies and procedures and within agreed timescales. 


  • Work in conjunction with and providing consultation to partner agencies to deliver effective planning for adults and their families to ensure positive outcomes for adults in Manchester. This will include representing the City Council at a range of meetings, proceedings and reviews as required.


  • Ensure that the practice of ethical record keeping is observed and recording is evidence based, accurate and up to date.    
  • Take an active role in team and service development. This will include working with staff and students and leading in the development of policies, procedures and training activities, supporting the Operations and Performance Manager in achieving and sustaining a high-performance culture within the team.
  • Provide quality assurance for the work of the MASH Service and wider Adult Social Care teams.
  • Personal commitment to continuous self-development and service improvement.
  • Through personal example, open commitment and clear action, ensure diversity is positively valued, resulting in equal access and treatment in employment, service delivery and communications.
