About The Role

Working Hours:  35 Hours Per Week
Contract Type:  Permanent, Full Time
Working Style: Hybrid - Employees split their time between working remotely (e.g., from home) and working on-site (e.g., in an office).

    There has never been a more exciting time to join Manchester's Adult Social Care Mental Health Service. We are undertaking a major transformation as mental health social care services transfer back into the Council, creating opportunities to redefine how social work supports people experiencing mental distress.
     
    As a Team Manager, you will play a key leadership role in shaping a growing service, supporting practitioners to deliver outstanding strengths-based practice, and driving improvements that help Manchester residents live well, stay connected to their communities and achieve the outcomes that matter to them. About the Candidate

We would love to hear from you if you are a passionate and experienced social work leader who is committed to delivering high-quality, strengths-based support for people experiencing mental distress. You will be able to inspire and support practitioners, promote excellent social work practice, and work collaboratively with partners across health, housing, voluntary sector and community services to improve outcomes for Manchester residents.

Essential requirements for the role

Candidates must have:
 
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in adult social care and/or mental health services.
  • Experience of leading, supervising and developing social work practitioners
  • Sound knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), Mental Capacity Act 2005 and safeguarding adults legislation.
  • Experience of managing complex casework, risk, safeguarding enquiries and statutory social care interventions
Desirable requirements that would be useful in this role

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
 
  • Experience of working within Community Mental Health Teams or integrated health and social care services.
  • Experience of leading mental health social work practice, including Care Act, safeguarding and Mental Health Act functions.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based, trauma-informed and recovery-focused approaches.
  • Experience of service transformation, organisational change or integration programmes.
  • Practice Educator, AMHP or Best Interests Assessor qualification.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with NHS partners, voluntary and community organisations.
  • Experience of coaching and developing aspiring leaders.
  • Understanding of the social determinants of mental health and a commitment to reducing inequalities.
